Their music reflects the spirit and drive of the rural Ozark string bands of Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. From the liner notes by the band:Old-time is the music of square dances and school houses, church picnics, farm potlucks and logging camps. It is the music heard on front porches while your hands are busy threshing beans or shelling corn. It is the music of the country, before country music was commercial, and each region of the United States has its own particular sound, from the hornpipes of the Midwest to the Cajun dance music of Louisiana to the driving mountain-breakdowns of Appalachia and the Ozarks. We are passionate about playing an Ozark music repertoire not just because it’s a local tradition that deserves to be carried on, but also because it’s a vibrant part of an ever-growing community in the Ozarks. Our rich tradition of music goes far beyond the "hillbilly" stereotypes and cultural tourism that often mask our region. Ozark music is a vital part of the many colored quilt that is our American musical heritage. We have spent the last few years researching and learning our local music through various sources such as commercial 78rpm recordings from the 1920s, old-timers in our community, and field recordings from several university archive libraries. The result is a repertoire that we feel accurately represents the myriad facets of Ozark music tradition at its best. We hope this album will be enjoyable to listen to, while it also documents a tradition and serves as a resource for all those in the old-time music community.
