Peter Roads and the Silent TownsSilent Towns is a collaborative project led by poet Peter Roads and musician Alicia MaySummon the Unbelievers, released 03 November 2021LYRICS:When I say I do not believe  it is only because I reached for the sky and found no pillar to hold it over our Heads No cloud atlas marking heaven No route mapped where angels tread No gateway to shimmer judgementally over sinful memories  of a life well spent No angels and no cherubim No songs, no choirs, no singing When I strummed the sky it was empty of strings empty of figments but full of Firmament so I asked for a sign and found windfull silence  to be no real answer the silence just makes it worse In a dream I see myself speaking  nonsense on a stage as if a robe and a pulpit  would make it more tasteful as if preaching to the converted  would make me faithful Faithless godless Heathen where the river flows there will be swarmssweet waters refreshedlike a forgiving facade that slips When you say blind faith is bullshit So when I say  I do not believe in god It is only because it does not exist and in this thunderous silence all that is comes crashing down on these slender shoulders but the sky did not fall No lightning struck me dead No chasm gaped  No void, no red abyss it was just the big wide open filled with all that is and I ask you this Why can that not be enough  Why can that not be reason to believe in the universe Reason to forgive this difference of opinion What reason could ever be good enough to kill for disbelief No reason  No reason No reason So I summon the unbelievers to stand together and dismiss superstitious nonsense There is better comfort in the real than ever was found searching the sky for the word of god all that can be found there is silence all that can be found there are promisesin truth the sky was never meant to be filled with heavens It was meant to be filled with space It was meant to be filled with emptiness and all we see are the stars
