Bragan LassesThe Far Field is a magical collection of music and song produced by Ceol Connected's Dr Thomas Johnston, created with pristine production values, evocative soundscapes and a roll-call of high calibre musicians, namely Seán McElwain (guitar), Shane Greene (keyboard), and Stephen Markham (sound design). Amongst the familiar and perhaps not-so-famliar fairy-related tunes on this album is an expertly crafted body of songs which combine the clever use of repetition, action words and playful onomatopoeia & alliteration. Inspired by the fairy folklore of the Sliabh Beagh region of Co. Monaghan, songs such as 'Whistle and Sing' describes the power of the fairies to impart the magical ability to play music on the unsuspecting passerby (in this case, Farmer Lonán). While the action-filled 'Here Sucky Sucky' shows that it's not only humans that are subject to the fairies' mischief and divilment! The Far Field album is based on Ceol Connected's live touring production of the same name. The show tells the story of Lonán the farmer who, one sunny day in the little hills of Co. Monaghan, discovers a magical whistle hidden in a hare’s nest. Suspecting that it belongs to the fairy folk who live at the edge of his farm, Lonán decides that the whistle should be returned to its rightful owners. The Far Field was due to tour nationally in April/May 2020, but due to the Covid-19 crises, Ceol Connected will instead present a series of Far Field-themed workshops on Tradoodle TV Subscribe here: https://www.youtube.com/c/TRADOODLETV Children across the country are invited to join Lonán on his quest flled with magical traditional music, puppetry, and storytelling to the enchanted ‘Far Field’.The Far Field album was made possible by Deis Recording and Publication Award from the Arts Council
