I play the upright bass as I sing, and while I was urged by many to overdub them separately, I’m very pleased that I stayed with my original intent of recording live and simultaneously. My fellow musicians are featured throughout. They are all exquisite professionals at the top of their game. “Nature Boy” and “’Deed I Do” in particular are testaments to their unique voices and expressive tones. While I greatly value the improvisational aspect of jazz, I adore the lyrics and melodies of this music. I try to present them with the care that the likes of Chet Baker and Nat “King” Cole did, and I hope that comes through as you listen.
