Joshua Herman, the founder of Circle Six Jewelry, is an award winning artist and metalsmith who creates exquisitely personal, handcrafted pieces. joshua@circlesixjewelry.com Joshua’s business partners A native of New Jersey, Joshua worked as an art director and creative director for more than 14 years before dedicating himself to the art of jewelry making. After graduating from the University of Hartford with a degree in graphic design, Joshua embarked on a career in advertising. Working at some of New York’s biggest agencies he created award-winning campaigns for major brands. But in 2009, after leaving advertising to take care of his children, Joshua started taking metalsmithing classes at Brooklyn’s Fitzgerald Studio and the love affair with jewelry making began. “I quickly fell in love with metalwork. I can sketch out a piece that’s in my head and then turn it into a three dimensional shape that someone can wear,” he says. “It’s so gratifying to see the look on a person’s face when they get the finished jewelry. Joshua’s inimitable style draws inspiration from an eclectic range of sources. Having trained as and worked as an art director and creative director Joshua is omnivorous about his influences. With particular passion for modernist architecture and furniture design—he frequently begins his sketches, by pairing geometric shapes, drawn from industrial design, with ideas that emerge from his observations.
