Every timeThis was a strange moment — the recent death of Luciano Berio (who meant a lot to me), combined with the Venice Biennale and my friend Uri Caine's opening curatorial year there. Mix that with the mad-rush mania called "throw your instruments on/off stage and do that sound check as fast as possible, prego, for the hall AND for the radio, maestro!" of a major music festival - and sprinkle lightly with a completely insane year of travel, concerts, teaching in 35 cities and 18 countries (and sleeplessness in 57 hotels) around the globe. The resulting performance is unpredictable, volatile, humorous, sonically intense, personal and pretty damn wacky (and includes some of the most extreme vocals I've ever recorded!) Amazingly enough, the sound of the radio recording is quite present and clear, although who decided to put that giant reverb on my voice/electronics I will never know (my apologies to all the listeners for the rare distortions in the sound resulting from an overloaded microphone or my mixer). Well, it was a very LIVE concert!. THEN: I put this CD away after that tour, intending to listen to it in a few months, but somehow it disappeared -- only to resurface in September 2020 - 17 years later! Much has changed in my musical life since then: I stopped played drum-set in 2008, and have been more active as a vocal soloist in theater and opera. But I always did remember this concert as a "good one" and thought it could be worth releasing.... Listening to it now, I'm happy it was recorded: surprising even me here and there, and re-confirming that there was a time when I really was a pretty good drummer.... I hopes that it transfers some pleasure to you listeners... best, David Moss ps. The full concert recording features a bonus track and the encore (not available as single tracks), plus various short comments to the Italian public. And for those of you who download the full concert, I've attached a "bonus item": the poster for this Music Biennale that Uri curated - what a line-up!
