Fee Stracke now made this a radical concept and took the parameters of chairs and furniture as the groundwork for her new music. In Instrumental Chairs she searches for the sound of Bauhaus-era objects, some of them iconic, some less well known, but all programmatic and innovative at the time they were conceived and built. From dimensions, materials, forms, and ways of usage, for example of the Ulmer Hocker, the Bentwood Café Chair, or the Cantilever Chair, Fee Stracke generated rhythms, melodies, and structures of her compositions as well as frames for free improvisation. Instrumental Chairs sounds industrial and poetic, modern and folkloric, like coffeehouses and offices, living rooms and departure lounges, like Europe and the Americas, and sometimes like Jazz.Unit Records UTR 4863
