I Am Watching a Dog Play in the Snow.The concept for this album arrived in a moment.At a storefront in Fells Point, Baltimore, house music provided a bouncy soundtrack to a beautiful afternoon. Coincidentally, a ship from the nearby harbor was beeping a horn in perfect time with the song.Processing the compatibility and conflict of the horn in the left ear and the tune in the right, I contemplated composing lively but decaying beat-driven songs with percussion, environmental sounds, instruments, and poetry.The idea persisted throughout the afternoon, blossomed in the evening, and by the next morning had become a creative goal.This is the result. Again. Again.2. Balance on an unstable fallen tree. Bounce. Feel a beat of a heart.3. Dance wearing steel-toe bootswith laces tied together by a cruel prankster.4. Sculpt, but expect to find gaps.Realize,for anything that has decayed into nothingness,something can be added.5. Contemplate something that is unwanted.Consider those who define it as unwantedare apparitions.6. Be close to home where an unrecognizable intrusionis most profound.7.
