Before I FallTHE BEAST WITHIN was an album long planned to showcase Cassandra Victoria Chopourian's songwriting with Fist of Kindness. When Cass joined Fist just after 2009's THE DEAD AND THE POWERLESS she signed on as a trumpet player, a role she played on PONDERIN' WITH THE FIST OF KINDNESS. But by the following album, THE THIRTEEN REPENTENCES OF THE PISTIS SOPHIA, she had already taught herself guitar (well, to be strictly accurate, the tenor guitar or baritone ukelele, both 4-string instruments with a shorter string length than a conventional guitar) and began contributing both vocals and compositions as well. When Fist went into a 3-year process working on their massive Gertrude Stein project, Cass continued to write original songs. These songs were fan favorites featured in FOK's frequent NYC gigs (in those days they played often at Freddy's Backroom in Brooklyn and community venues in the Lower East Side.)
