Gently Johnny2. Misty MountainsI'd only seen The Wicker Man for the first time a few years ago. I loved the film instantly and the song Gently Johnny really got me when I first heard it. It's a beautiful haunting melody and I wanted to make a version of it emphasising that melody.I experimented with replacing all instruments and vocals with just clean bass guitar to build up the layers of the song.The result is a mellow ambient piece.Later on I did the same with the song Misty Mountains from the (fairly terrible) film The Hobbit. As soon as I heard the song I knew it would work in this format.In between the two songs I actually started working on an all bass guitar version of Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield but a brief moment of sanity put paid to that. Maybe one day I'll get back to it.The artwork for Misty Mountains is a photograph I took in Italy and the artwork for Gently Johnny was made by Dominic Sohor and I absolutely love it.
