CONNECTICUTGranby 4-hWelcome to Granby 4-H, a UConn 4-H Club, where kids will find a welcoming community to learn, cultivate, and grow life-long skills and friendships.Granby is the perfect setting to explore a new skill. We welcome kids ages 7-18 and rely on volunteer parents, community members, local farms, and businesses for support. Our next full Club Meeting will be Wednesday, January 4th at 7 pm at the Holcomb Farm Workshop.HeadHeartHandsHealthWelcome toGranby 4-h4-H is an international youth organization that promotes learning in STEM/Agriculture, healthy living, civic engagement, leadership, and community service. In addition to traditional agricultural projects such as animals, gardening, cooking and sewing, 4-H offers other projects such as photography, woodworking, and public speaking. The possibilities are endless. One difference between 4-H and other youth organizations is that it is coordinated and run by the youth members with guidance from adult advisors/coordinators. Members learn how to run meetings, decide what community service and fundraising projects they want to do, how to set and achieve goals, and how to manage responsibility, all while having a great time doing it..trx_addons_inline_1052965331{background-color:#64A15B;}how it worksabout granby 4-hIn Connecticut, 4-H is coordinated through the University of Connecticut Cooperative Extension Service - supervised by the UConn Extension Office in Hartford County. Any Granby 4-H member can attend and participate in the Hartford County 4-H Fair or any other county, state, or national program.Youth members are welcome to engage in 4-H as independent members where they can learn in a specific project area and be evaluated while being entered at home rather than in a club setting. Independent members are still encouraged in state, regional, and national 4-H program opportunitiesIn 4-H, it's the youth members (with guidance from advisors) who coordinate the program, run monthly meetings, decide what community service and fundraising projects to do, set and achieve goals and much more. Annual sign up is in October of each year. Membership continues until September 30th of the following year. After signing up to join the club, each member may then sign up for individual projects - see the projects page for details about this year’s options.how it worksMeetingsThe Granby 4-H Club holds 8 club meetings annually (November-June) on the first Wednesday of the month. The meetings are held at Holcomb Farm and begin promptly at 7 PM and are run by the Granby 4-H officers. Meetings are very organized and are presented following Robert's Rules of Order. The meeting opens with the pledge of allegiance and the 4-H pledge, followed by the secretary and treasurer's reports, committee reports, and old business and new business. During this meeting, the club discusses and votes upon issues such as spending money and events in which to participate. Every member has a vote, and every member's opinion is valued-don't be afraid to speak up!After the business portion of the meeting is complete, a demonstration is offered. The demonstration is presented by one or more 4-H members or a project group. It is a time to explain a project they are currently working on. Some past demonstrations have included a short talk on how a person would clip and prepare a cow for showing, showing a woodworking project and how it was made, and how to make cinnamon rolls. Following the demonstration is the evening's program. Then, an adult presents an interesting program. Past programs have included beekeeping, therapy dogs, and even a yoga class. The program topics vary greatly and are limited only by the members' imaginations. All members are encouraged to make program suggestions to the officer team.Project Meetings -  Members may register for individual projects (see projects below) based on their interests. These are smaller, topic-focused groups led by volunteer leaders and meet on varying schedules. This is where hands-on learning takes place!Project leaders coordinate with 4-H members to set a schedule and alert you to important dates. See below for this year's projects. 2022-23 Granby 4-hprojectsWe're pleased to offer a variety of projects - old favorites and new adventures.
