FOUR BRIDGES - Track 4Four Bridges is an audio experience designed to be heard on mobile devices as visitors walk through Montalvo Art Center’s woodland environment. To help coordinate sound and landscape, the music has been divided into the following four tracks, and additional material has been added to the end of each track to accommodate the different speeds at which the visitors move along the trails.For a video realization of the complete work, filmed in the Montalvo environment and without any breaks or additional material, visit https://vimeo.com/291560297.Four Bridges' narrative is inspired by our primal memories of the forest and the stories that depict it as an enchanted and mysterious place. It also explores the woods as a metaphor for our common journey, and what it means to carry the burden and promises of a shared humanity. Midway along the route, voices of victims of political and religious injustice call out from the twisted underbrush, first with poems inscribed by Chinese immigrants on the walls of the Angel Island Detention Center, then in the person of a Japanese-American whose father was interned during the Second World War, and finally in the reminiscences of a Holocaust survivor. Along the way, you’ll also hear children’s rhymes, contemporary poetry, and archival recordings.
