Inez Popko, a Polish artist dedicated to music, poetry and dance, has established a fine international reputation as a flutist. She has successfully managed to enchant audiences in Europe and Asia with her passionate performances reflecting her deep love and understanding of music. Inez received her first musical training at the age of seven, learning violin at the Bacewicz School for Music in Koszalin, Poland. A few years later, she began learning flute and piano. Her playing very soon began to be noticed and awarded in many competitions. She was a finalist in the National Flute Competition in Poland and won the First Prize in the IX National Competition For Young Instrumentalists. At the age of sixteen Inez made her solo debut with Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra, performing G major Flute Concerto by J.J.Quantz. A year later, she decided to perform G.Hüe’s Fantaisie with Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra, however she realized that there was no orchestral score available at that time. Her passion for music led her to orchestrating the piano part and successfully performing the piece. Her skill for making transcriptions was also appreciated when she won an Etude Competition, playing her own arrangement of Paganini’s 24th Caprice. Her transcription of a Chinese piece called Spring on Chinese River received high praise from internationally acknowledged musicians and is currently being prepared for publishing. In 2009 Inez completed her Bachelor of Music Degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague where she studied with Thies Roorda and Rien de Reede. She studied orchestral playing with the famous flute soloists of the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Emily Beynon and Kersten McCall. She was also coached in the historical performance practice by an acknowledged traverso player Kate Clark. Inez was able to further develop through studies with esteemed flutist Carlos Bruneel, a former teacher of Emmanuel Pahud. In 2012, she completed her Masters of Music Degree at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, graduating with Distinction. In 2014 she completed her Masters of Chamber Music Degree, impressing the jury with her final performances on flute and piano and graduating with the Highest Distinction. Her career as a professional orchestral musician began before Inez had completed her studies. As a teenager she toured Europe with an International Youth Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Miłosz Zarzycki. She followed an internship at Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra and has been actively playing with Symphonia ASSAI in Belgium. She has also performed with Haagse Instrumentalisten and Nederlands Fluit Orkest. Inez has also collaborated with burgeoning contemporary composers, which led to the release of a CD of new works by Lithuanian composer Arturas Bumsteinas: ‘My Own Private Bayreuth’. In the years 2012-2013 she has been playing recitals with pianist Agnieszka Zywert in Belgium and Poland. In 2013 she toured China, giving a series of recitals together with guitarist Roberto Borbone. She also regularly played charity concerts helping to raise funds for the integration of persons with disabilities (Eigen Thuis concert series). Recently she has done another tour in China consisting of flute and piano recitals. Contact artist@inezpopko.com for more information.
