Hvarfig Lera by KvT, released 16 September 20181. Pilgrim2. Verzió3. Thy Silence Is A Vessel With Swollen Sails‘Hvarfig Lera’ was recorded by Phil Freeborn in a basement in Berlin. These sounds use simple, battery-powered equipment, allowing a singular focus on process-based tasks. ‘Pilgrim’ takes two voices as its starting-point, singing a deconstructed version of ‘The Lone Pilgrim’ (a sacred harp hymn first published in 1854), and stretching it as far as possible within these limitations. ‘Verzió’ uses a similar process with a repeated fragment of a song by A.E. Bizottság from 1984. ‘Thy Silence Is A Vessel With Swollen Sails’ iterates the sounds of fifty assorted spoons being dropped, and allows this process to slowly transform into something far from its point of departure. These are exercises in shaping layered and ephemeral soundscapes from the overlapping churn of single simple elements — voice, resonance, repetition, movement, memory. We hope you find the results rewarding. Thanks for listening.Equipment: two Roland Micro-cube amplifiers, two Boss RC-30 Loopstations, two Shure SM-58 microphones, fifty assorted spoons.
