Just a girl and her English Mastiff… Brody is a purebread English Mastiff (Old English Mastiff) born on Christmas Eve 2009 in Oklahoma. He was born with 10 brothers and sisters, all healthy puppies. At 7 weeks old he was put on an airplane by his wonderful breeder, Gawkey Creek Mastiffs, and flew all by himself to San Francisco International Airport, where I met my boy for the very first time. I was so excited I was about to embark on this Mastiff sized journey and become a new mom! Brody was raised in Northern California with his older feline brother Chance, and his now passed on feline brother and sister, Donnie and Angel. After Brody arrived in California, it became very obvious that I would forever be cleaning up dirt, mud and paw prints off the floor and everywhere else in the house! Shortly thereafter, Brody would be registered as “Romriell’s Big Mud Tires” with AKC, his formal name. His call name would forever be Brody. He has been by my side for every single moment since February 12, 2010. My name is Shelley and I’m Brodys Mom. At a young age, I fell in love with animals. Growing up, we had 2 black cats and 2 black labs. Always bringing the dogs to my softball games and to my happy place, Lake Berryessa. Our older lab, Missie Lynne, was like a sister to me. We grew up together and she was by my side through my teenage years. After losing her to a blood disorder, in my late teens, I never thought I could ever love another dog. In my late 20’s, I was introduced to an English Mastiff named Gus, and fell in love! I had to have one of these giant, sweet natured but protective dogs. My search led me to many different breeders. After a few breeders didn’t work out, I contacted Gus’ breeder, who was just about to have 2 litters! In February 2010, I officially became an English Mastiff Mom! We have been on a Mastiff Sized Journey ever since. Brody is my soul mate, my heart… the Love of my Life! Together we embarked on this amazing journey for over 9 years. We have seen peaks, valleys, creeks, lakes and oceans. We have listened to a lot of music, watched a lot of SF Giants baseball games, including 2010, 2012 and 2014 World Series victories, and taken lots of road trips. We have chased squirrels, ducks and rabbits, watched sunsets, walked in the rain, danced in the snow and ran through fall leaves. We have walked trails, climbed mountains and basked in the suns warmth. We have cried, laughed, napped, been enlightened, and fought for each other. We didn't have nearly as many years together as I had hopes for, planned for and prayed for. But those 9.5 years will forever be the best years of my life. With this blog, I hope to keep Brody's legacy alive and his memory forever in our hearts. It is my goal to one day be able to share his story world-wide in a book about Life with Brody.
