The Ballad of Francine PefkoHere's the short version: In August of 2014 I quit my job and took an Amtrak train across the country to Olympia, Washington to record an album at Dub Narcotic Studios with Amelia Patrice, who was in school for audio engineering at the time. In one week of intense studio time, we were able to track and in some cases finish 9 songs. Most of the time it was just the two of us,sometimes joined by Andrew Dorsett, Ben Kapp and studio manager Sam Gray. For a variety of logistical and emotional reasons, I chose not to treat these recordings as a complete finished album, and they remain unmastered. I'm releasing them now as a download-only format in hopes of breaking the spell of lethargy and ambivalence I feel toward completing my next album, which will likely contain some of these tunes in different arrangements. These songs were written between 2009 and 2014. Most of the thanks go to Amelia for making this recording a possibility, getting the studio, convincing me to come out there and do it, believing really hard in my music, and offering both engineering and musical talents to my work. I am very grateful for the work and effort she put into this project and a lot of other stuff. More thanks: -to Sam Gray for his help with technical problems, mixing and digital management of these songs. - to Andrew Dorsett and Ben Kapp for offering their talents on a few of these as well.-to Susan Tuzzolino for generously housing me in her beautiful yoga cabin for the duration of this session. -to the many fine friends of Portland, OR, Seattle, Helsing Junction Sleepover and Olympia, WA for making me feel so very at home during my Northwestern adventures, especially Jon Myers, Gnorski & Katie, Jade, Cecca, Patrick Reilly, Ray Mack, and Sam Smith.-to my dad Dave Carrow and my brother Spencer Carrow for helping facilitate and encourage me to roll with this project. -to anyone who's ever bugged me about releasing this recording.
