Gleanntáin Ghlas Ghaoth Dobhair'Madagoan' is the product of a collaboration in Goa, India, that took place over three weeks between the traditional Irish band Madagán and the Goan singer Divya Naik and her percussionists. The idea of the project was to take songs and melodies from both traditions and interweave them to develop new approaches and interpretations. In some of the pieces this involved the composition of new riffs, and lyrics in English, Irish and Konkani. Needless to say there were a number of challenges to be overcome, not only in putting an album together in such a short space of time, and trying to persuade Irish instruments to cope with the heat and humidity of Goa, but great credit must must go to the singers who learned lyrics in languages they had never heard before.Four of the songs were premiered at Banglanatak.com's flagship world peace festival, Sur Jahan, in February 2019.
