The theme of place, in fact, figures very heavily into the album as over half of the titles are named after specific locations rendered diffuse via context. Transit in general and also specifically the 5 corridor from East LA to San Diego figures into the album as well. A transit not only of place but also of time in which the present collapses into the past and the future seems to recede by some force of nature or optical illusion. A gestalt in which the edges are impossible to perceive. The tyranny of architecture....of the voice-over...of the robo-call. The inability to reclaim what has passed but via cassette tapes. The ache of lost futures.Above all I am interested in that which is not 2020 but along the path to something simultaneously forwards and backwards. Restless, hungry spirits on Auto Pilot along the libidinal highways.
