Southern CrossThe Darling Baaka River runs 1,472 kilometres from its source in northern New South Wales, through Walgett, Brewarrina, Bourke, Louth, Tilpa, Wilcannia, Menindee, Pooncarie and Ellerslie, to Wentworth, where it joins the Murray River. It is the longest river system in Australia and the greatest inspiration for my work. Even with the abuse of humans from water over-allocation and pollution, the river still remains home to hundreds of native species including birds, mammals, native fish, native frogs, reptiles, freshwater turtles and insects.
