Louis FouchéSubjective Mind, released 18 December 20121. Perceptive Delusion2. Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise3. Silver Lining"Subjective Mind" is the debut release of up-and-coming alto saxophonist Louis Fouché. In his five-year career, Fouché, age 27, has performed nationally and internationally with renowned artists in various genres, including Latin legend Eddie Palmieri, jazz-rock trumpeter Christian Scott, funk bassist George Porter (of the Meters), and R&B singer/songwriter Gordon Chambers, among many others. Fouché wields a distinctively rich, blues-rooted sound on the alto saxophone, and he is now taking his original music onto the global stage. The "Subjective Mind" EP consists of three acoustic tracks, serving as an introduction to Fouché's musical voice. On each track, Fouché fuses blues and jazz with a set of his diverse musical influences – starting with funk and drum & bass on the opener "Perceptive Delusion," R&B and neo-soul on the second tune "Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise," and classical and indie rock on the closing number "Silver Lining." The first and third tracks are Fouché’s original compositions. The classic “Softly, As in a Morning Sunrise,” written by Sigmund Romberg and Oscar Hammerstein II in 1928, receives Fouché's unique harmonic and rhythmic arrangement, bringing it firmly into the 21st century.Fouché’s background is different from many musicians. Before pursuing music full-time, he earned degrees in physics and chemical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Music first served as an escape for Fouché, allowing him to divert his mind from his academic coursework and giving him the opportunity to journey into his creative spirit through sound. The title "Subjective Mind" reflects his unique background and explores the contrast between the objective, analytical focus of science and the subjective, emotional emphasis in music in his own life. For the 20 minutes that the "Subjective Mind" EP runs, you can expect a wealth of harmonic textures, emotive melodies, and interactive improvisations between Fouché and the roster of accomplished young musicians who have joined him on this project: Romain Collin on piano, Luques Curtis on bass, and Eric Doob on drums.
