Mystic BrewMystic Brew is a five piece band from Russia influenced by 60's garage and psychedelic obscurities.Something More Than Dream by MYSTIC BREW, released 06 December 20151. Retrospect2. Yesterday's Sky3. Something More Than Dream4. New Dawn5. Space Is The Place To Be6. Through The Haze7. Belaya Bol'Languid and laid back, Something More Than Dream is a beautiful record full of lush psychedelic sounds that sometimes boarder on the exotic, sometimes on stratospheric – all crafted to bring on a sort of transcendental state of mind. I find it quite a charming record both because of the bands lovely Russian accents, but also because of the quirky sounds they like to add to their songs: whoops, boings, bongos and sitars, which are sort of washed together with the vocals for a softer sound. The album starts with ‘Retrospect’, an instrumental that sets the tone for the rest – subtle, with a lovely rhythm punctuated by tambourine. ‘Something More Than Dream’ is a song that reminds me of all the 60’s garagers who dropped their first tab and switched their minds from trying to make the loudest sounds imaginable to trying to effect the most way out sounds around – nice sort of ‘innocent’ teen psych. Challenging those great Texas psych bands: 13th Floor Elevators, The Golden Dawn etc. Mystic Brew’s ‘Through The Haze’ is a hypnotic trip with spacey zaps and wha wha’ed guitars. Closing the album is Belaya Bol’ a song I am assuming is sung in Russian – it has some weird temp changes and a lot of blips and bloops. Some of the most creative psychedelic music is coming out of Russia these days and Mystic Brew are at the forefront of creating it.GlynisBananas Magazine
