MirrorsDualism is a collection of four pieces created throughout my electroacoustic studies at Concordia University. These pieces do not quite fit together, nor would they be quite at home elsewhere within my body of work. They represent sonic explorations and creations for my studies, and the duality of my work as an electro - acoustic composer.The first track features field recordings of Lake Ontario, a river in Vermont, and other snippets of the natural world, intermingled with noise to form a carefully composed sonic world alternate to our own.The second and third track embody two sides of the composer, the first incorporating human voice in uncanny harmony with the Doepfer A-100 synthesizer and a collection of gongs. The second further explores the modular voice of the synth, crying out on its own. An alternate version of part 1 can be heard on the 2018 MUSIQUE VOLUME 2 compilation by L4M Records.The final track is an homage to Laurie Spiegel's computer classic, The Expanding Universe. It is a study in the spectrum between rhythm and tone, polyrhythms intermingling and competing to be heard before giving way to a gentle drone.As I reached the end of this chapter in my studies and artistic development, it felt appropriate to let these tracks go and enter ears other than my own.Thank you to my professors, classmates, and friends who challenge and support me endlessly.
