*Story By NJBiz.com*East Orange CBD delivery company wins $50K, spot in 12-week acceleratorBy: Gabrielle SaulsberyAn innovative duo in the cannabis space caught the attention of San Francisco-headquartered Eaze, the nation’s largest cannabis delivery company.East Orange-based CBD delivery company Roll Up Life Inc. owners Tiyahnn Bryant and Precious Osagie-Erese won a no-strings-attached $50,000 grant from Eaze through its 2022 Momentum business accelerator program.Roll Up Life is one of 10 companies nationwide picked for the annual Momentum program. Momentum participants receive a $50,000 grant; a 12-week business development program led by industry experts; and support from Eaze’s business, marketing, legal and PR resources.Momentum has provided a total of $1 million in grant funding to date across the 20 companies that have already passed through the program. Momentum was recognized by Fast Company as a 2021 World Changing Idea.Osagie-Erese said she and Bryant plan to use part of the funding to further develop their cannabis delivery technology.“As a CBD delivery and logistics company, we currently take our orders through our webpage. In preparation to take on adult-use deliveries, we are advancing our technology arm and building an app that will make ordering simple and convenient,” she said.Eaze surprised winners with the announcement at an event in Los Angeles on March 8 that brought together founders with investors including Arcadian Capital Management, Ultranative and CGI Asset Fund; and with sponsors including Dagga, Garden Society, Leune, Cann, Country, Vertosa, Confia, MGO CPA and Everyday.Osagie-Erese said Roll Up Life went to Los Angeles under the guise of doing a final interview, and that they were taken by complete surprise when told they’d be part of Momentum’s third cohort.“It’s surreal, we’re extremely grateful and now we’re just ready to work!” Osagie-Erese said.In their application, she said, “we didn’t hold back.”“We let it known that it has been extremely difficult to navigate the regulated cannabis industry as two young African Americans. We needed support to help reduce the barriers to entry that we were facing from funding to business development,” said Osagie-Erese. “We mentioned that this business was more than a company, it was an opportunity to help usher in more people of color into this space, and we wanted to be at the forefront of the movement.”While Roll Up Life started in 2020 as a CBD delivery company and remains so today, it aims to become a delivery service for high-quality cannabis and related products as the adult use cannabis industry blooms.Roll Up Life and nine other cohort members will soon begin Eaze’s 12-week development program. Roll Up Life is the only winner from New Jersey and one of only three from the East Coast, alongside Boston-area companies Rolling Releaf and NEEM Wellness, which are also delivery companies.
