Shane Sutton Art

Contemporary artist Shane Sutton's work includes a wide variety of media but he is best known for his larger street art paintings known as Spacer. ‘Spacer’ murals were influenced by an earlier collection of oil paintings entitled ‘That space in between’, an observation about choice and decision. The artist describes that space in between as the moment after you leave but before you get there. In 2019 he was awarded an art residency with the European Space Agency UK Climate Office. Collaborating with scientists he produced a number of paintings on the topic of climate awareness that was later exhibited at the space agencies Living Planet Symposium in Milan, 2019.As the winner of the ‘Graffiti Without Gravity’ Street Art Competition in 2018 with ESA Holland the and the Hague Street Art Shane also became one of the first street artists to sign his work in weightlessness on a zero gravity flight with Novespace. Along with a passion for oil painting his previous work includes illustration, graphic design, motion graphics, film editing, animation, cinematography and directing. In 2009 he was awarded a nomination as best editor at the Irish Film and Television Awards (IFTA) with the film also winning a total of nine national and international film festival awards. As an educator Shane has worked with various community groups in Ireland and also works as a volunteer with Irish charity The SCOOP Foundation. The foundation works with the Bahjid refugee camp and in Kurdistan Northern Iraq on an arts and more recently an It educational program designed by Shane. The aim of the new IT program is to equip young people with computer skills and build an educational network of computer classes using art, computers and creative thinking to enhance school learning, expand on career potential. The It project also works with partners such as Dropbox, Google and coder dojo.
