Why we are different We use natural, minimally processed ingredients whenever applicable. Some ingredients are natural but have undergone processing to increase the safety, shelf life and user-friendliness of a given product. We limit our use of highly processed components. Scientific literature research has been conducted and studies have been reviewed to ensure that ingredients with beneficial effects on the body are used for our products. Most of our ingredients are manufactured and many are even grown in the UK – yes, GROWN! We do not want to solely rely on importing from abroad due to the environmental consequences and potential negative impacts on product quality. We limit the use of potentially harmful fragrant essential oils and perfumes. We embrace the natural smell of our (facial) products and stick to well-tolerated fragrant components when required. We mainly use glass and cardboard packaging. Many of our product ingredients are organic and sourced sustainably. Ingredients such as fruit seed oils are by-products of the juice industry which add extra sustainability to our formulations. from our blog : Are natural cosmetics worth the hype? Natural cosmetics have gained more attention in recent years. But are they really worth the hype? To start off, what are natural cosmetics? The problem is that the term lacks a real definition. Even the FDA “has not defined the term ‘natural’ and has not established a regulatory definition for this term in cosmetic labeling.” 1 Products stemming from nature could be defined as ‘natural’ but might have undergone modification in the lab leading to a synthetic product, which makes defining natural cosmetics even more difficult. Considering that, one might say a natural product is a product derived from nature that has undergone minimal processing. Many people also have the notion in their mind that NATURAL = GOOD, which is why many producers and consumers rely solely on this definition. What they tend to forget is that not all natural products are equally suitable for human use and that some natural ingredients have been used traditionally due to accessibility rather than scientific investigations. Many producers also bulk up their products with low-quality ingredients – they either have not done any research on ingredient origin or production, have not been able to find suitable suppliers or try to improve their profit margin. They also often try to mask the natural smells of unrefined ingredients with overuse of fragrant essential oils, which can be harmful and irritate the skin. Moreover, natural cosmetics are also associated with sustainability and a low environmental impact. Whereas this may be true to some extent, many producers import their ingredients from all over the world and use plastic packaging, making their products score lower in the sustainability score. Unfortunately, it is often these producers who then try to “greenwash” their products and make them look more sustainable and natural than they actually are. They may withhold product information that customers find important or make promises they can’t keep. Why we are different We use natural, minimally processed ingredients whenever applicable.
