Reid, came together in a sprawling old house on the banks of the River Spey, in the Scottish Highlands. Over the course of one intense week, with a diverse cast of players and vocalists, which included many old friends, they recorded over two dozen traditional Scottish folk songs. All the tracks were recorded ‘old school’, as live performances in singular continuous takes, so as to capture the mood of the moment and the spontaneous atmosphere of the sessions. The resulting album, entitled The Speyside Sessions, is “a fresh take on the traditional music form, with the ability to transport the listener and rouse emotion”. It will be released June 2012, with all profits going to the charity, Save The Children. The album is a love letter to Scotland and the creator's home area of Moray. In the same spirit as Bruce Springsteen’s “Seeger Sessions” which highlighted American folk songs, The Speyside Sessions album is comprised of an intimate mix of traditional Scottish ballads, reels and bawdy crowd pleasers.
