As ORQID Butcher conjures sensual music driven by emotion.Iris Sessions, released 29 May 20221. Iris SessionsIn 2021, my friend April Pride from The High Guide approached me with an interesting concept for her podcast: to create long-form audio experiences to accompany people who are on a spiritual and/or psychedelic journey. We talked a lot about how to approach the senses in a different way than making music traditionally, from the sounds employed to the feelings we wanted the audio and music to evoke. This composition emerged as the first in a series of Audio Journeys. This composition is intended as an accompaniment to a walk in nature and segmented into 3 parts. Each segment utilizes the manipulation of time as a central figure, blending sounds from the natural world with electronics. The final segment of the piece is intended as a springboard to launch the listener back into her or his natural environment with a heightened sense of awareness and joy.I used field recordings with special effects, my Make Noise Shared System modular synthesizer, Minimoog, John Bowen Solaris, Roland SH-101, and ARP 2600 synthesizers to create the sounds in this composition.Listen to all the Audio Journeys in the playlist here: https://www.thehigh.guide/trip-music, and be sure to check out the integration episodes in which each artist including ORQID breaks down the approach and sound experience.
