Life at the Arndt house has gotten much more interesting since Margaret arrived and convinced us that our house is hers. She was so convincing with her sweet cuddles and her ability to sit when told to sit and her hit-and-miss interest in potty training. Taco came out of the womb potty trained, so I've never had to deal with puppy pads or scolding or praise, or to stand outside and, as the vet suggested, tell a dog to Do your business! It's all very silly but I'm hoping it will work. The sooner the better because every time I pick up her poop, I gag and see stars. The GoFundMe hit the goal on Day 1, and there was enough overage to fund the spaying that will happen in a few months when her poor body is ready for surgery. I have cried for the past week and a half seeing how many generous people donated to help this sweet girl we weren't planning on taking home. Taco is a little confused and booty hurt that Mags is getting all of the attention. Miss Margaret thanks you from her cozy new bed. She is feeling so much better and her poor achy boobs are doing so much better thanks to daily warm compresses! I did bust Taco breastfeeding on her the other day and now I'm forever traumatized. We are so relieved that she is not pregnant but also so sad that we couldn't find her litter. I tried, y'all, I tried so hard. I drove around the parking lot and the entire shopping center looking, and stopped into lots of businesses to ask if anyone had found a litter, but no luck. The vet expects that her litter didn't survive. It's so sad. My biggest goal beyond caring for her health needs is making sure she doesn't get out of the front fence (she fits through the gaps) and wind up pregnant again, so I'll be using my newfound carpentry skills to create a solution so she can't escape. (Special thanks to my dad who gifted me with my very own jigsaw. Of COURSE there's a story there but I'll tell that one later!) Margaret is obviously mourning. She takes this little brown fluffy porcupine/hedgehog looking toy, brings it to bed and nuzzles it and it makes me cry my eyes out. I'm angry that her owners didn't get her spayed! My friend reminded me about Bob Barker and we laughed so hard about him - he's 96! And we bet he is still saying, Have your pets spayed or neutered! because REALLY. I say it often but life is good. And you guys are great. Thank you. Thank you.
