The Victor MourningBased in Austin, Texas, The Victor Mourning perform acoustic anachronisms from another century that are firmly rooted in this one. Thought provoking, starkly haunting songs tell tales of grief-torn outcasts, confidences betrayed, piracy, and murder. The band creates music with an old time feel filtered through a modern sensibility, at once both relevant and true to its ancient roots.Kill a Spider, released 02 December 20131. Kill a Spider (Frankie Silver)2. The Ballad of Frankie SilverThese songs were inspired by the story of Frances ("Frankie") Stewart Silver, who was only 18 when her husband, Charles, was hacked to death with an axe in their Burke County, North Carolina, cabin just before Christmas in 1831. His body was dismembered, its parts strewn in several locations. Frankie was charged with the crime, tried, convicted, and sentenced to death. Despite strong public support for clemency, on July 22, 1833, Frankie was hanged, and her body was buried in an unmarked grave. Her story lives on in these recordings.
