ShibuyaSun Songs is a project that seeks to harness a snapshot of the Sun’s energy through music. Working with two engineers from Spitfire Audio, we have designed and created an instrument that records sunlight, which is converted into midi data. Sunrises were then recorded in Los Angeles, France, London and parts of the UK, which form the soundscapes in these recordings. The instrument has two modes, a recording mode which tracks a set of values over time which then gets output to midi, and a live mode which triggers samples and affects a set of parameters. In live mode, the sounds and music generated are based on the lumen levels of that environment throughout the performance.30% of sales go to Giving Green, an evidence based climate emergency fund.
