Vudu SisterVudu Sister is an American recording artist based in Providence, Rhode Island. Known for a gothic aesthetic and witchy, grunge-tinged death folk. Hallelujah, I'm a BumIn 2011, I started Vudu Sister. My hope was that I could have a space where I could create and collaborate without having to start from scratch after so many bands would come and go. I wanted to be able to continue with my own songs with the door always open for others to join me. That first year, I entered Greg Holmes’ little home studio on River Ave, and we spent that gift of a summer with friends and co-conspirators taking chances, fucking up, making some noise, and giving a hundred percent of what we had to what would become my first album. After all the music I had done and all the bands I had played in since the early 2000s, this was to be my first real musical statement. In 2012, at the old Speakeasy under Local 121 in Providence, RI, “Bastard Children” was born and help up high for a packed, sweaty crowd on a sold-out night. Both my parents were there and so many friends. I was 26. Fast forward to 2022. The decision to re-mix and re-master came from Michael Samos as we had re-examined “Dead Man’s Pockets” last year. I had always wanted to do something special to celebrate the first ten years of Vudu Sister and Her first album release. I am so glad this was able to happen, and I can only send a huge, special thanks to Mike for being able to make this a reality. This album will always remind me of those glorious summer days at Greg’s, the open mic nights at Tazza where I first tested many of these songs in their nascent stages of evolution and many of the friends I made in those first few years with whom I still collaborate to this day. We shed tears, got hurt, got drunk, lost, gained, laughed, and lingered. Some people I’ve since lost touch with, some friendships have grown deeper, and some I would never let go of. Enormous, loving acknowledgment goes to Diane O’Connor who has been my co-pilot since Vudu Sister’s inception, and to my best friend, Alexander Garzone who has been co-writing and collaborating with me since before the Sister during our Vudu Bevy days in the late 2000s, always pushing me out of my comfort zone and bringing an unconventional touch.
