We met three and a half years ago when we were both working on the Allure of the Seas, one of Royal Caribbean‘s largest Cruise Ships. Amanda was playing Tanya in the musical “Mamma Mia” and Matt was working as the SCUBA Instructor. We’ve been living, working and traveling the world together since and have finally decided to put our travel stories, experiences, and tips down on paper for others to enjoy. We’ve been to over 20 countries together since New Years 2016 in the Caribbean and are only just getting started. We now work for Azamara, the smaller sister company to Royal Caribbean. Smaller ships, fewer guests, a more intimate work environment and unbelievable itineraries allow us to enjoy our time at sea to the fullest. Amanda works as the Associate Cruise Director working half her contract as the Assistant Cruise Director and the other half as Cruise Director. I hold a similar position in the Future Cruise Sales and Loyalty department working as the Associate for half of my contract and stepping up to the Manager for the other half. We are grateful that our schedules line up so that we have our work and vacation time together. Our plan for the next few years is to continue working together for Azamara. While doing so, we’d like to work our way into the real estate market in Alberta, Canada and then possibly Las Vegas, Phoenix or Valencia, Spain where we have a valuable asset in two close friends running a theatre production company while already managing multiple Air BnB’s. The idea of flipping a house appeals to us both and will be something we pursue after we’ve established our first property. We’re both excited to become home owners and have so many idea’s on how to turn a property into a home that’ll suit and satisfy us in all regards. More About Us Amanda Poulson – While I’m currently working as a Cruise Director for Azamara, my background and first love has always been Musical Theatre. I grew up studying dance, singing in choirs, playing the trombone and doing as many shows as possible. I got my Bachelor’s of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin, Madison and I have been lucky enough to play several of my “dream roles” including Eva Peron in Evita; Maria in West Side Story; Ellen in Miss Saigon; Cathy in The Last Five Years and Reno Sweeny in Anything Goes.  In 2008, I took a job with Royal Caribbean Cruises as a Featured Singer and fell in love with being at sea. I moved to Azamara in 2012 where I worked as a Featured Singer and Headline Entertainer. In 2016, I was thrilled to join Royal Caribbean’s Broadway At Sea program on The Allure of the Seas as Tanya in the original West End production of Mamma Mia! When Azamara launched it’s newest vessel, The Pursuit, I took a leap of faith and made a major career change and became their Associate Cruise Director. I now work 2 months as the Assistant Cruise Director and 2 months as the Cruise Director. I still get to perform my Headliner Show and I sing for various events onboard. My album Finding Wonderland is available on Itunes. If you want to know more about my life as a performer including pictures and video you can visit: www.amandapoulson.net Matthew Wachno – In October 2014 I decided to put my Journeyman Ticket in my back pocket and start a life of travel. I booked myself onto an 18 day trek to Mount Everest Base Camp and left for Nepal on a one way ticket expecting to come home for Christmas; it wasn’t until two years later that I actually made it home. Over those 2 years I became a Scuba Diving Instructor and lived and worked all through South East Asia. My home bases were in Thailand and Indonesia, and I miss that lifestyle every day. Upon my return to Alberta, Canada I was faced with how I was going to make money in diving in a landlocked province that’s frozen more than half the year. That’s when I saw an add for the Dive Manager position on the Allure of the Seas with Royal Caribbean. It turned out they liked my credentials and I ended up leaving for Fort Lauderdale, Florida eight days later. Over the next eight and a half months I worked from the Caribbean Islands to Mexico and even managed to make it to Puerto Rico a couple times. Although I met Amanda Poulson on the Royal Caribbean contract, I didn’t think it was for me and decided to follow a different path. I went home and got into Alberta Forestry as a Wildland Firefighter with the Government of Alberta. I worked falling trees with one of my best friends Adam Wolf for a winter season and worked the next year as part of the Fort McMurray Unit Crew throughout Alberta and a month in Ontario on an export. It took me a year to decide that Amanda was worth going back to Cruise Ships for so here I am. I now work in Future Cruise Sales and Loyalty with Azamara on one of their three ships the Azamara Pursuit.
