本研究中心的主要宗旨是從事本土神學研究，通過研討會的舉辦與出版的工作，讓台灣的本土神學能夠不斷發展、代代傳承。這個宗旨也是回應林澄輝長老及其夫人鄧路德女士成立恩惠文教基金會，長期關心神學教育，協助年輕師資的養成以及獎助接受神學教育的優秀神學生的心意。
