Ilia Laporev was born in Ghent, Belgium, in 1990. Ilia began playing the cello at the age of nine, studying with his father Ilia Laporev Sr., as well with the Belgian cellist Hans Mannes and with Vladimir Perlin, in Minsk, Belarus. From 2015 until 2018, Ilia was the Principal cello of the São Paulo State Symphony orchestra (OSESP), with Marin Alsop as musical director.
