Welcome ToOral History Audiobooks...love and honor and pity and pride and compassion and sacrifice. Those words from William Faulkner's Nobel Prize acceptance speech kept repeating themselves to me as I listened to the recordings I made of interviews and conversations with World War II veterans. So long, kids, and if I never see you again, goodbye. Those were 18 year old Billy Wolfe's last words to his twin sisters, Maxine and Madalean, two years his junior. Father look out! Those were Mathew Caruso's last words as he threw chaplain Connie Griffin to the floor of an ambulance that came under machine gun fire during the Korean War and shielded him with his body, saving the chaplain's life. The pilot dipped down and lowered the plane as it flew over New York Harbor and said 'Look out your right side window,' said Karnig Thomasian, a recently liberated prisoner of the Japanese. I can't tell you what I felt. I opened up an issue of Life Magazine and saw a picture of Larry -- I knew him as Larry -- and I said he really did play baseball. I thought he was kidding, with those bandy legs. He was an incredible ballplayer. He could hit any kind of crazy pitch. A few years later Lou Putnoky took his son to a Yankee game. During batting practice he told an usher he was a shipmate of Yogi Berra and asked him to deliver a note, so he could introduce his son to Yogi. Soon Yogi started walking toward him, and was about 50 feet away when Casey Stengel came out of the dugout, said something to Yogi and they turned and headed for the dugout. These and hundreds of others are the people you'll meet in Oral History Audiobooks. When my father was in the hospital I bought a small tape recorder to preserve his stories. I left it home when I went to visit and figured I'd take it next time. He was released from the hospital, and two weeks later there would never be a next time.I took that tape recorder, a Sony Recording Walkman, to a reunion of his outfit in 1987 and met three veterans who remembered him. I returned two reunions later and have been recording the stories of the World War II generation ever since.Great oral history from those that were there.-- eBay feedbackThese guys are a hoot! -- eBay feedbackThese have been so valuable to me while researching my grandfather's war story. -- eBay feedbackThese are the stories of our fathers and grandfathers.-- Amazon reviewerPopular Audiobooks5 crew members recall the day their tank was knocked out[audio mp3=http://www.oralhistoryaudiobooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/track08BobRossi.mp3][/audio]Sample Track 1: Bob Rossi on why Sergeant Jim Warren hated General MacArthur[audio mp3=http://www.oralhistoryaudiobooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/track12EdSpahr.mp3][/audio]Sample track 2: Ed Spahr tells why he gave his German memorabilia away.[audio mp3=http://www.oralhistoryaudiobooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/track12Gifford.mp3][/audio]Sample Track 3: Jim Gifford returns to the 712th after recovering from his wound.Order in the WW2 Oral History StoreOrder on eBay11 hours of interviews with veterans of the Longest Day[audio mp3=http://www.oralhistoryaudiobooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/track05ValentineMiele.mp3][/audio]Sample Track 1: Valentine Miele of the 1st Infantry Division[audio mp3=http://www.oralhistoryaudiobooks.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/track01PatsyGiacchi.mp3][/audio]Sample Track 2: Exercise Tiger survivor and D-Day veteran Patsy J.
