Duets with OrchidUsing the MIDI Sprout, Caitlyn Swett (dancer/choreographer) and Zach Cooper (prepared guitar/live electronics) perform two duets and a trio with an orchid controlling a synthesizer. The MIDI Sprout uses biofeedback technology to capture electrical signals in plant cells and converts them to MIDI data (digital music language). Duets with Orchid was premiered at Black Mountain College Museum + Art Center in Asheville, NC. June 2017.This piece is a collage of recordings of the premier and rehearsals of Duets with Orchid and in-studio experiments with Penelope, the orchid, and the MIDI Sprout.
